There is nothing more self reliant than being able to supply your own seed year after year. Not only will you save money not having to rely on seed catalogs or stores to purchase seeds or plants, you are able to select seeds from fruit that has qualities you consider important (taste, size, color, etc.) In some cases the procedure is more complex than just scooping, drying, and saving the seed. There is a process you need to follow to have viable seeds for the next season.
The most important step to saving seed is identifying what kind of seed you have. You cannot save a seed from a hybrid plant and expect to get the exact same plant when the seed germinates the following year.
